The Raleigh News & Observer has a story about the new Richard Gere/Diane Lane chick-flick Rodanthe, which was filmed in the small North Carolina coastal town of the same name.

The story mentions a couple of other movies shot in North Carolina. Here in Western North Carolina, we know the list of movies shot around here practically by heart. From Last of the Mohicans to Dirty Dancing to The Journey of August King to … well, you get the picture.

The story mentions Bull Durham, a movie with scenes shot at historic McCormick Field. And it mentions that scenes from Forrest Gump were shot around the Biltmore Estate, which a little factoid I had forgotten.

Other movies with scenes shot at the Biltmore Estate (not a complete list): Hannibal, Patch Adams, Richie Rich, Being There and Mr. Destiny. Also, anybody remember The Private Eyes?

I loved "The Private Eyes" as a kid but had forgotten about that one. Thanks for the reminder; it’s now on the way from Netflix.
