A 2008 Asheville team works on their movie.

Contestant teams in Asheville’s 48-Hour Film Project spent a sleepless weekend on the streets, living rooms and editing rooms of Asheville, writing, shooting and editing their own movie created just for this annual fest.

On Friday night each team got a prop, a character, a line and a genre, and were sent out to spend the weekend making movies.

Some 2012 genres:

Horror
Mockumentary
Musical or Western
Romance
Sci Fi
Silent Film
Thriller/Suspense
Vacation or Holiday Film
Comedy
Fantasy

Submissions from 21 local teams were turned in Sunday evening, and showings of the 2012 crop of entries are this week at Asheville Pizza (‘the “Brew & View”) on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Premiere Screenings
Tuesday & Wednesday
Time: 4pm, 7pm, 10pm
Venue: Asheville Brewing Company (Merrimon Ave. location)
$5

A best-of showing is scheduled for July.

2010’s hilarious Audience Choice winner, Touched By Angels (starring local trivia god Kipper Schauer as a washed-up rock star)  is soon to be a full-length comedy feature and was funded via Kickstarter.  Trailer below.
