Todd is right, it wasn’t the most perfect 3-5-0 in the world but isn’t that just Asheville, a little quirky, a little outside-the-lines? We’re just different here! The truth of the matter is that it’s pretty amazing that we were able to get this far. Here are some reasons why:
–This was not a permitted event, which meant that we were not allowed to have electricity. So, we had a battery-powered sound system [a challenge in and of itself] and it conveniently died right when it was time to line up people (though it was supposed to last for 6 hours).
–It turned cloudy, windy and very chilly at about 3 p.m., after a brisk, but at least sunny, early afternoon. So, by the time it was photo-lineup time, people were cold and getting antsy, ready to move inside where it was warmer, even though most were very good natured about it and excited to be in the picture. Believe me, the photographers (Ash included) tried really hard to convey to us what needed to happen ["it looks like a 3-5-D!"], but with a crowd of 300+ cold individuals (lots of children included), and no sound system to bark out directions to everyone, we eventually opted to just go for it, imperfect though it was.
–We had way more people show up than we expected, which was great! It was exciting and energizing to see so many people join together for this important cause. When we mapped out the 3-5-0 on paper, we had no idea that we’d be working with 3- or 4-times more people than anticipated. It was a great problem to have!
So, yeah, the execution could have been better, but the spirit of community was strong. Our thanks to everyone who came out and to photographers such as Ash who did their damndest from 10 floors above to line us up. Great job by everyone involved!

Great effort, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. Thanks for a good laugh.
I wonder if the Carbonfoot print these folks left was worth the effort of the 350?
Great image!
