Asheville native Caleb Johnson, who won Season 13 of American Idol, has just released a new single that honors his hometown roots.

Born and Raised will appear on the album “Born From Southern Ground” from Caleb Johnson and The Ramblin’ Saints. (The band is Johnson with lead vocals, Josh Sawyer on guitar and Brennan Dugan on bass.)

The full album is scheduled to be released in February 2019. Johnson’s first album was released in 2014 after his American Idol victory.

In the Born and Raised music video, Johnson can be seen driving down Leicester Highway. “This place shaped who I am,” he says as he drives by Erwin High School and notes that’s where he went to school.

“I think it all stems from where you’re born and raised,” he says as the mini tour ends and the music cranks up.

The song is pure Southern rock, a genre Johnson has fully embraced. “To my dyin’ day, I’m gonna live how I was born and raised,” he sings.

Johnson will be launching a short tour at the end of the month singing the songs of Meat Loaf. Then he joins Trans-Siberian Orchestra to finish out the year.
