Anchorman Frank Kracher made his debut back at WLOS on Wednesday, to the delight of his loyal followers. Frank hit the streets of Ashvegas to do a story about the tough economic times and how they’re playing out in downtown Asheville. Check out the story video here. Frank did a good job, but definitely looked a little rusty to me. I’m sure he’ll get back up to 100 percent in short order.

Meantime, punnyman and fellow WLOSer John Le welcomed Frank back with his own little video

It’s great to see Frank back on the telly. Welcome back, dude.

The now entire weather staff at WLOS does a phenomenal job. So does Larry,Darcel and the others. Give Frank a break! Good man…needs time to acclimate back into the routine. More power to him.

Need to read up on Frank. He’s recovering from a fall and brain surgery. Give him a break. I’m glad he has an opportunity to come back to Asheville.

Where are all these John Le haters coming from? The man is informative and entertaining. I love his stories. It’s so nice to have some news on the lighter side. I want to be informed, but I don’t want to be depressed all the time either. I think we need the John Le’s of the world to help balance things out. I have a name to add to the mix: Tammy Watford, there is a solid often overlooked anchor. She does an amazing job. And I don’t see why you can’t like Larry and Frank at the same time. It seems like everyone is on one side or the other. I think they both do good work.

Yea, it’s a small station in a small market, but so what? If you don’t like it, go live in a big city. I think they do the best they can with what they have. I’m not all that trusting of the news these days anyway. I don’t believe news is as much in the service of the public any more as it is in the service of the big corporations that own the smaller stations.

WLOS didn’t pay for EMMYs when Frank was here b/c back then they didn’t have the talent to win any awards. Besides last few years, I think the last person to be recognized by their peers with an award was Sherill Barber, LOL!

  5. You want small-town bad? Try Tallahassee, FL. They actually make the WLOSers look good. I guess it’s all relative. The real problem with commercial media is that it’s become soundbites and ratings rather than real journalism and news reporting. The prols want to be entertained.

Without a doubt WLOS is a very small town tv news operation. It covers Western NC almost exclusively — leaving SC news almost to WYFF (Greenville) and WSPA (Spartanburg).

Awards? How do they serve the viewer? They don’t. They are all about news people from different markets judging each other, then using those prized golden Emmy trophies to promote their newscasts. That simple. By the way, WLOS did not pay for any award entries until recent years. That is a fact. So look beyond the statuettes and see it like it is. Frank Kracher is way better than Larry Blunt. Emmy Shmemy.

Aw, I like Karen Wynne. She’s sweet and has a nice delivery, even with her weird accent. I could never do any of their jobs, even Darcel’s, who hasn’t reported an actual story in decades. All she does is read shit, and she has a weird accent, too ("Harry-cane Katrina." OMFG.)

At least Larry gets up from behind the desk to do some reporting, sometimes. He’s no Tom Brokaw, but he could be a hell of a lot worse. (Also, if John Le left, I’d take a shot of whiskey in his honor — in honor of good riddance to John Le.)

I love how people refer to WLOS as small town tv station. There are 210 markets in the US. Asheville, Greenville ,Spartanburg is market 36. If you look at the real small market stations you’ll know bad. You have no idea how bad.

This is reality: Larry Blunt along with John Le and Russ Bowen have brought WLOS a ton of awards, I don’t remember WLOS ever winning anything when Frank was here before. BTW, the commercials on WLOS are the best part of that station now. Whoever shoots them needs a raise and promotion. Nice work! This is just one professionals opinion.

Frank Kracher did seem a bit rusty, but he should immediately replace Larry Blunt who is always terrible.

John Le is not now, and has never been, humorous.

WLOS is such a small-town tv station.

I thought he looked great. With his rehire, is there a chance we can get Karen Wynne less airtime? Yikes.
