Are you thirsty for some Altamont beer, West Asheville? According to “Beer Guy” Tony Kiss, you don’t have long to wait:

An impressive seven-barrel brewhouse has been installed at Altamont, and brewing will likely begin next month. Barring some unforeseen delay, Altamont will become Buncombe County’s 11th craft brewery. All Altamont needs is final federal paperwork.

Across town, Wicked Weed Brewing on Biltmore Avenue will likely open as the 12th Buncombe brewery before the year is over. Throw in the other breweries around Western North Carolina, and that brings the local total to 20 (not including the new Sierra Nevada, New Belgium and Oskar Blues projects yet to open).

“I always knew that we would get here,” said Altamont brewer Gordon Kear. Until now, Altamont lacked the money to build the brewery, he said. “It’s been frustrating for sure,’ he said. “It felt longer than it was. But this was the only way (to get going).”

According to Kiss, for starters Altamonst will brew an IPA, an ESB and a porter, with a winter/holiday seasonal likely.
