t may be one of the sweetest and most complicated representations of the holiday season. Gingerbread houses have become as much a part of the holiday season as gifts and snow wishes.

Some of the winning homes from the National Gingerbread House Competition are featured.

But today’s tasty likenesses can be so much more intricate that one might forget the homes are made of gingerbread. The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa in Asheville, N.C., hosts the annual National Gingerbread House Competition and crowns the best of the best.

Emily Spafford of Maryville, Tenn., took top honors last month in the youth category that had 124 competitors. Billie Mochow of Burns, Tenn., won the grand prize.
