Disc golfers v. enviros
Kassandra “Special K” Pride took her bulky sweater out to Richmond Hill Park to take a tour of Ashvegas’ planned disc golf park. Kassandra told us that environmentalists had a lot of concerns about the development, while the disc golfers can’t wait for the park. She also said moutain bikers wanted details about trails there.

The development of the park has been a pain in the ash for Ashvegas City Council. The city was cited by the state for failure to do proper erosion control, and that black eye has led council members to slow down planning and development of the site, which will also include an armory and parking lot.

In other news…
Things are back to normal in Apex after a big fire at a hazardous waste disposal facility… It was mostly a dreary fall day, but Julie Blunder says the sun will come out tomorrow… Jon “Punnyman” Le went down to Clemson to do a story on the Wind Load Test Facility, where they use an air cannon to fire 2X4s at cinderblock walls. The whole story was an ad for ABC’s “Extreme Home Makeover,” because the guy at the Clemsonn engineering facility was on the show Sunday… Some old people got flu shots at the Renaissance Hotel from Blue Cross nurses… And Julie and Russ “Beefcake Bowen giggled over how much fun it is to play dress up – this after a story about the doggie carnival at the ag center.

The disc golfers originally developed that park with no impact on anything. It wasn’t a problem until the city decided it would be a good idea to turn a hill into a ballfield.

The erosion problems have really messed up Asheville Parks and Rec’s schedule too!
