How to Exercise Your Right to Dissent: An Educational Forum for Community & Student Activists

The UNCA and WNC chapters of the American Civil Liberties Union have organized a public education forum to focus on the rights of and restrictions on protesters in exercising their first amendment rights to express disagreement with government and corporate policies and activities.
Newly announced members of the panel include Asheville City Councilwoman Robin Cape, City Attorney Robert Oast and local political and social activist Clare Hanrahan. UNCA Professor Mark Gibney, UNCA’s Belk Distinguished Professor of Humanities, will moderate.
UNCA Professor Dwight Mullen and Kati Ketz, president of UNCA Students for a Democratic Society President, will be there, as will Attorney Frank Goldsmith. Asheville Mayor Terry Bellamy, Asheville Police Chief Hogan, and Buncombe County Sheriff Duncan have also been invited.
