Press release here, courtesy of loyal reader Sandy. Hope somebody can help:
Green Opportunities is seeking a new home in Asheville for 2010 and beyond and we need your help finding it!
Our most ambitious challenge yet: “A Home To Grow Into” to support the development of Green Opportunities into an established, community-based organization dedicated to building a just green economy from the ground up through job training, community education and microenterprises.
We are working with local partners to develop a Green Opportunities Center. This facility will showcase best practices in green construction, clean energy, sustainable food production, waste management and ecological landscaping. Best of all, the space will be renovated entirely by underemployed, low-income youth as part of our green collar job training and placement program, Asheville GO. Desired features of the facility include:
• 2,000 or more s.f. of warehouse/shop space for hands-on training activities and storage of equipment for GO enterprises
• Approximately 1,500 s.f. (or more) of office/classroom space to supportadministrative duties for GO staff and partners
• Situated on or adjacent to property suitable for ongoing sustainable agriculture and ecological landscaping projects
• Proximity to our target neighborhoods (West Riverside, East Riverside, and South French Broad)
• Convenient access by bus, car or bicycle.
Green Opportunities is a small, start-up nonprofit organization with a limited budget. We are therefore looking to meet our facilities needs through creative partnerships. These could include:
• Trading labor on renovation projects in exchange for full or partial rent reductions
• Offering tax benefits in exchange for full or partial rent reductions
• Sharing space with compatible, like-minded partner organizations
