Crash at the big iron

The Asheville Citizen-Times has a short story this morning about a dude trying to elude police in downtown Asheville on Saturday night.

Police tried to stop him on Patton Avenue for suspected drunken driving, and the driver kept going, turning onto Otis, then Wall Street. That’s where the chase ended, because the guy hit the giant iron that’s part of the Urban Trail right there at the corner of Wall Street and Battery Park Ave. You know – the one where everybody stops to take a picture.

The wreck moved the iron about six feet, according to what police told the newspaper. I’m going to head down and take a picture, which I’ll add promptly.

My Mountain Xpress photo gallery is up. Check it.

The driver was really steamed when the cops finally ironed out the details of what happened.

Judging from your photos, there doesn’t seem to be any discernible damage to the iron. Did you notice any?
