There was a fire in Mitchell County. Kassandra Pride went out there and said three businesses and a church burned up in what she called “a relentless inferno.” We get it, Special K. There was a fire. She said the cause was an air conditioning unit that went bad somewhere.

Back at the anchor desk, Russ Bowen said a car detached from a train in Waynesville. The car was carrying concrete mix that had to be cleaned up.

In other news: the Biltmore Village Arts and Crafts Festival is this weekend; the 44-year-old Interstate Motel sign on Hiwasse Street was taken down Saturday morning; an earthquake measing 2.8 on whatever scale it is was recorded by the U.S. Geological Society about 6 a.m. Saturday in Marion; and Hearts with Hands has some hay for farmers hit by drought. Call ’em.
