Why are flags flying at half-staff all over Ashvegas? Former President Ford died weeks ago. So did James Brown. What gives?

It’s half staff. It’s only half mast on a ship. Unless I am wrong, which I usually am.

Sure, got it, but isn’t that almost Hirohito-like leader worship?

I guess that’s one day for each month he served as President, plus an extra day for for good luck. Not for Gerry, though.

Hey, uh, I could be wrong and all, but I think they run flags at half mast for 30 days after a President kicks the bucket… or some such thing… not sure where else I heard that. /sarcasm

After a president’s death, flags are supposed to fly at half-mast for one month.

Federal and State (but not cities or private business) agencies are required to fly the flags at 1/2 mast for 30 days after a presidents death. Many just follow suit. They should go back up Monday morning!

Bushwhacker ordered a 30-day mourning period for Ford. That’s why the flag is at half staff.

And, just to show that Dubya actually got something right:
from the US Flag Code, Title 4, Chapter 1, Section 7, Paragraph (m)

Flags are at half-staff because President Bush ordered that they be flown thusly for 30 days following the death of President Ford.

I’ve been wondering myself so I looked it up at whitehouse.gov – 30 days is what Pres. Bush has requested. It should be over soon.

I’ve been asking the same question. I wonder if there’s some kind of protocol when a former prez dies that the flag have to fly at half-mast for 90 days or sumthing.
