There’s a story about Heath Shuler, the candidate running to unseat Charles Taylor here in WNC, on the front of the Washington Post’s web site this morning. Go here for more of the same stuff you’ve seen on Shuler before.

But the story does answer a critical question – how in the hell did he name his children? Here’s the answer:

Since retiring from football, he’s been a successful real estate wheeler-dealer. For a while he was in business with his younger brother, Benjie.
Heath’s wife, Nikol, does not campaign with him much. “She does her thing,” he says, “I do this.” She stays at home with their son, Navy Heath, 5, and daughter, Island Nikol, 2. He named his son out of a road atlas and his daughter from the back of an Island Transportation truck.

Shuler’s wife "… does her own thing." Hmmm. How exactly will that work with him in D.C.? Most political functions, i.e a state dinner involve the wives. People love to bash Hillary Clinton! This gal is worse! At least, Hillary was involved — a little too much — but she did her part. Shuler’s wife obviously wants no part. How they named their children is another matter entirely! VERY SCARY! A few questions come to mind. What were they thinking? What were they on? I don’t know. I guess, this STRONGLY PROVES one thing: WE DON’T NEED A DUMB JOCK IN WASHINGTON!

i suppose his daughter should be glad he didn’t name her "hazardous" or "how’s my driving."

Interesting! I’ve been asking this question for months. Guess I should have just asked Heathbar directly.

Glad his finger didn’t land on Pittsburgh in the atlas.
