In 2009 the Grey Eagle was the definite destination of choice for Valentine’s weekend. Icy roads and sub-freezing temperatures did nothing to quell the excited couples and music lovers who crowded into the sold-out Grey Eagle for an epic night of love songs–69 of them in fact. The Magnetic Fields’ landmark release 69 Love Songs was covered in its entirety. If you were one of the numerous people who couldn’t make it to the last show, or got turned away at the door, this year is your second chance.
Chall Gray, a well-known local producer, writer and restauranteur has teamed with Harvest Records and the 
to make this unique event come together. “I’m very
excited,” Gray said of the event, “not just to work with the guys at Harvest and the Grey Eagle, but to have such a stellar lineup of bands performing these songs.”
69 Love Songs, a 3-Cd set released in 1999, is considered by many to be a landmark achievement for The Magnetic Fields, and critically regarded as one of the best albums of the last two decades. 69 Love Songs contains songs performed in a variety of styles, from jazz to surf rock, from synth pop to country ballad to Irish folk song, and a diverse group of area musicians will come together for this unique performance. The performers will each perform a set of between 7 and 10 songs, and the range runs the gamut from local indie stars Kovacs & The Polar Bear, to quirky pop trio Now You See Them, crooner Jay Martin, the lo-fi folk band Pilgrim, all the way to the theatrical Holiday Childress, backed by Chuck Lichtenberger and Stephanie Morgan of Stepanie’s Id.
This show will, like its first incarnation, undoubtedly be one of the most interesting and exciting Valentine’s events, and will be talked about for years to come.
