Here’s the quirky story:

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Cindy Lund walked through the doors of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum Tuesday and made history.

She and her husband, Steve, of Asheville, North Carolina were visiting the museum with her sister, Connie, of Grand Rapids, and her children, Angela, 14, and Daniel, 12. The group was unaware of the importance of the visit.

“We were so surprised. It was my husband’s idea to come,” said Lund.

Museum officials gave her an autographed copy of Gerald R. Ford’s autobiography, A Time To Heal, and other mementos.

Susan Ford Bales and Steve Ford, two of President and Mrs. Ford’s children, congratulated Lund over the phone.

Since the museum’s opening in 1981, it has welcomed on average 100,000 visitors each year.
