haywood_road_store2 Two new shops are preparing to open along Haywood Road. The first is called Whist, a gift shop. The store is going in at 428-A Haywood Road. Just two doors down, at 428-C, the brown paper is up and word on the street is that a new bike shop will open there.

These stores are just north of the building that’s just been renovated at 444 Haywood Road by Austin Walker, Sam Walker and Russ Towers. It’s near the Intersection of Interstate 240 and is home to Second Gear and two other new stores: The Rhetorical Factory upcycled clothing shop and King Daddy’s Chicken & Waffles, which will be going in later this year.

It’s all part of an incredible resurgence of retail and restaurant activity all along Haywood Road. I just wrote about the new Mothlight at Mr. Fred’s. Check BlogAsheville for a down-and-dirty round-up of Haywood Road action.

WHIST was formerly Scaredy Kat in the hip Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn. Here is a page about their move to Asheville.

Hey – do you know what’s going on with 727 Haywood? They always have crazy stuff in their windows, and it was rumored to be a neighborhood used bookstore, but nothing has happened there in a long time.
