Asheville artist Dustin Spagnola, the man behind the recent New Belgium warehouse murals and other notable pieces of public art in Asheville including the Bob Moog mural at Moog Music, is seeking help with travel expenses to Nepal, where he plans to be part of  Kolor Kathmandu, a project that aims to create 75 public murals in Nepal.

Spagnola is asking people to donate on IndieGoGo, a fan fundraising site:

My name is Dustin Spagnola. I am a visual artist based out of Asheville, North Carolina. I make large scale public artwork.

I have been invited to be a part of Kolor Kathmandu, a project that aims to create 75 site specific public murals in Nepal.

I believe everyone has a right to art, including the people of Nepal.

With your help I will be able to share my knowledge about creating public art with Nepalese artists, and in turn, together we will create over 75 pieces of public art.

In order to achieve this I need a plane ticket to Kathmandu, Nepal for February of 2013. They cost between $2000-3000.

I have set a goal of $1500 towards my ticket. All money raised will go towards my travel expenses to and from Nepal.

If you contribute to this project you will receive artwork from Kolor Kathmandu.

Perks for contributors include photos of the murals, giclee prints, and even an original Spagnola painting. View Spagnola’s campaign here.

A photo gallery of Spagnola’s public art is here.
