-The Asheville City Soccer Club, Asheville’s new professional soccer team, won its first match on Saturday night. Before a sold-out crowd at Memorial Stadium, the hometown team defeated the McDonough, Ga.,-based Revolution 2-1.

-Sarah Winkler and Lindsey Pitman, the owners of Trade and Lore in Asheville, are opening a second Trade and Lore location in Charlotte, reports charlottefive.com. Congratulations!

-There’s a big disc golf tournament coming up in a few weeks in Asheville.

-The synchronous fireflies will be firing up soon. Here’s an off-the-beaten path place to see the lightning bugs.

Blue Ghost Brewing recently celebrated its one-year anniversary and bought a 1.75 acre plot of land directly adjacent to its current space on Underwood Road in Fletcher. The new location is expected to open this spring, and will include an outdoor stage and bar. The land purchase is the first of a three-phase project which will include adding an additional 3,000 square feet of space to the current building, as well as the installation of a 10-15 barrel brewhouse. A timeline has not been set for latter two projects, but work is likely to begin in late 2017 or early 2018.

-An event called Mothers and Daughters: Making Together on Mother’s Day, put together by Asheville artist Martha Skinner, will be held beginning at 12:30 p.m. on May 14, with the location announced to those who sign up. Sign up here.

-Chuck Collins, the author of Born on Third Base, will be talking about our common stake in our communities beginning at 5:30 p.m. on May 24 at the Asheville Masonic Temple. The Mediation Center of Asheville is putting the event together. Go here for tickets.

-Asheville Chef William Dissen will host the James Beard Foundation’s Celebrity Chef Tour Dinner at The Market Place Restaurant on May 17. Dissen will team up with four other acclaimed national culinary talents for a memorable evening of food and drink. The cost is $175. Proceeds from the dinner will benefit the James Beard Foundation, according to a press release. More:

The event will start off with a cocktail reception with passed hors d’oeuvres prepared by each chef, and drawing influence from their own culinary larders and unique styles of cooking.

Following the cocktail reception, the chefs will put together a 6 course dinner.

The tour showcases the culinary artistry of James Beard Foundation Award winners and celebrity chefs in restaurants and other exclusive venues around the country. Like dining at the James Beard House, guests have the rare opportunity to interact with the participating chefs throughout the evening and savor specially designed tasting menus complete with wine and beverage pairings.
