The annual fund-raiser and party rally event, the Vance-Aycock Dinner, is scheduled for the Grove Park Inn in Asheville on Oct. 4.

Last year, Republicans raised a big ruckus over the face that the event is named after former governors Zeb Vance and Charles Brantley Aycock. Vance was once a Confederate and Aycock once participated in a race riot, facts that the GOP used to protest the event.

That led the Democratic Party officials to call for a name change. Some high profile Democratic candidates also called for a name change. The state state party chairman called together a group to look at alternative names, but never came to a consensus.

So, what do you think? Protest in the streets? Name change? Does anyone really care?

Under the Dome suggests a name change.
