Will Asheville sign the pledge to get people to turn off their lights for one hour on March 27?

Hello,

I am just one girl trying to get “Earth Hour” to catch on in Asheville. (You may have heard about it, it started in 2007 in Australia. It caught on in many major cities around the world. Even the Las Vegas strip turns off their lights.)

Incase you haven’t heard about it before…..
In 2009 hundreds of millions of people around the world showed their support by turning off their lights for one hour.
Earth Hour 2010 will continue to be a global call to action to every individual, every business and every community. A call to stand up, to show leadership and be responsible for our future. More info is available at: www.earthhour.org

It’s a small step, but makes a big statement. East Carolina University, Wachovia and Brevard College all have signed the pledge. Very few businesses and zero city or state government offices in North Carolina have signed the pledge.

I am hoping Asheville will be the example of “Earth Hour” for North Carolina. Do you have any ideas of how I can spread the word, without paying for advertising? Or could you mention Earth Hour or their website on your blog?

I have written the City Council, and I am trying to get local businesses and the community to participate in this one hour, on March 27, 2010 at 8:30 pm. I am hoping there will be some candle-light gatherings, at home for individuals or in public, as communities……

Thanks for any help or ideas you could give me!

I read the New York Times a lot and dont even listen to NPR (dont know what Lemming Xpress is? Mtn. Express? )…I do believe that any person can find a scientific report or study to back up anything they choose to believe in.

Was not assuming anything…just saying no one is too cool to turn the lights off for an hour, even asheville.

Need to get your news from something other then NPR or the Lemming Xpress. The AP, Reuters and even CNN has covered the total collaspe of Global Warming/Climate Change scam.

If you read what I put it wasnt about looking cool it was Asheville was too cool to participate, might want to try reading what I put and stop assuming.

There is a facebook group "Asheville Earth Hour" where folks can post their hour of darkness plans…http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/event.php?eid=344626539534&ref=ts

As far as climate change being de-bunked, I hadn’t heard that…guess we aren’t listening to the same news or weather sources.

earth hour isn’t about looking cool, its about doing something small–climate change or no, we could all use a little less electricity.

Try using Social Media, like a Facebook group to rally around the event.

If its anything like last Earth Hour no one participated, hard to look cool up town with the lights off. Besides the Global Warming/Climate change is being debunked whats the point . . .
