Sorry, not a timely reply. The parents thing is a matter of being a good parent, but also unfortunately, luck.
A to the P is right, little crappy incidents happen there all the time. That side of Montford gets all the traffic between Hillcrest and Klondyke. I moved from that area closer to downtown (it’s all relative) five years ago because there was a sense of increasing tension. This has continued, obviously.
Still waiting on a quote from Brownie – his front door is 200′ from the shooting site…
I haven’t voted for Mumpower, but he has been on to something for the past couple of years.
I used to live down the street from that store on Soco. And yes, it was Shady as hell sometime. You can’t sit out on your porch without two or three random dudes walking into your yard to bum cigarettes or beer or even just ask for change.
The Montford area is pretty shady everywhere.
One of my friends delivered pizza right next to the store (where all the cops hang out) and was robbed.
I had some hard candy thrown at my car by some pre-teens while at the Montford/Chestnut stoplight a couple Halloweens ago.
Another kid threatened to throw a rock at my car on Melbourne Place (the Klondyke end of Montford).
I used to live in Montford. It can be hella sketchy.
But the main problem is this: If you have a large party in the Montford area, chances are a few random thug kinda guys off the street will just roll up and start grabbing beers and making trouble.
It’s ridiculous. I had to physically throw two guys out of a birthday party a few years back.
So it could have very well been some random guys that just saw the party and showed up.
I don’t think anyone on the weekend skeleton crew at WLOS manages the website.
Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen the site updated on a Saturday or Sunday other than the weather portion.
Paris, speaking for myself, i’d just like more basic information on what happened. was this a gang-related drive-by? dumb kids playing with a gun? a stone-cold killer stalking the streets? the community needs to know.
not sure what you mean when you say these kids "just apparently got older and more involved than they were prepared for." yeah, kids grow up. that’s why they need parents. and the kids got more involved in what? what are you saying?
unfortunately for Montford, this isn’t the first time there’s been a shooting there. several years ago, somebody was shot in Montford Park.
What kind of information are you looking for- and are you really going to be surprised when you get it?
It’s sad for the family involved, they particularly struggle with not being bitter toward the honkey gentrifiers around them- and the other connections they have to maintain. The parents at the property do give a damn and are aware, their kids just apparently got older and more involved than they were prepared for.
Remember, it would take only one DUI death to change the Blogapalooza from a well advertised friendly gathering into a nightmare of news and blog comments…
yes, Ashe-Villain.
you’re welcome, Edgy!
Bmac, WLOSers have a news web site, too. you’d think they would actually put news up there now and again. i totally agree with your comments about the kids being out late – what’s up with that?
Well, the earliest you’d get it from WLOS on Sunday would be the 6:00 news.
Kassandra had the story, but referred to it as Courtland Road. I think she said it was a birthday party.
A birthday party around midnight?! With 12-year-olds running around?! I love some of the parenting decisions made these days. Geez.
Thanks for the information. Once again, you beat the other "media" to it. Which I’m thankful for, because I’ve been hearing rumors all day, but haven’t been able to find much real info.
damn. scary. I used to live on Courtland.
