Here’s some of what WLOSers had Friday night:

Gas prices suck
WLOSer Kassandra Pride told us what we already know – gas prices suck. Kassandra drove her news car up to a pump at the Shell station on Long Shoals Road (near the television station) and filled ‘er up. She said gas was $3.19 at the Shell, but $3.10 just down the street. So why did you go to the more expensive gas station, Special K?

Kassandra said some folks are predicting $4-a-gallon gas by summer. She talked to people about how they were coping. Suprisingly (not), nobody liked paying more. Kassandra said you can save gas by driving more slowly and taking heavy stuff out of the trunk.

In other news…
Somebody is stealing heating fuel oil out of people’s tanks. A local guy said he thinks crooks sneak up at night and siphon out the fuel. WLOSer Frank Fraboni said a lock for your tank costs $14.

Black Mountain Chevrolet under investigation
Fraboni said an investigative arm of the state DMV is looking into allegations that Black Mountain Chevrolet isn’t paying people for trade-ins.

In still other news…
More people were arrested following the Fugitive Files on WLOS… Counterfeit cash was discovered in Forest City… Somebody has stolen about $180,000 from the Bojangle’s on Patton Avenue since last September… The U.S. Department of Agriculture says grocery prices will go up 3 percent this year… And Yancey County schools shut down Friday after more than 1,000 students called in sick with the flu this week.

Restaurant Report Card
Fraboni disappointed this week by only featuring high-scoring restaurants. Who wants to hear that?

Anyway, Fraboni said the Sonic on Patton Avenue scored a 101, with extra credit for employee training. The Food Lion deli in Hendersonville got a 98 and the Blackwater Grille in Laurel Park scored a 98.

Bad restaurant report card is over! A low scoring restaurant pulled their ads from WLOS following one of Frank’s stories. So, managers decided only to report A’s.
