Body found
Carolyn Ryan, wearing her smart-girl glasses, said police found a body in a shallow grave behind a house on South Caldwell Street in Brevard. Ryan said the rumor was that it was the body of a local man that recently went missing. Police hadn’t confirmed an identity.
Shooting victim ‘speaks out’
The 22-year-old shot outside his Skyland home is recovering. The guy was shot in the leg, and two people have been arrested and charged. WLOSer Courtney Ward interviewed the victim at length about his surgeries and stuff.
In other news…
The state Supreme Court upheld the conviction of Billy Raines, found guilty in 2002 of murdering two people in Henderson County. He’s setenced to death… A Burke County deputy was shot the other night while trying to serve commitment papers on a woman. It reminded Charu and a lot of other people of Buncombe County deputy Jeff Hewitt, who was shot and killed in April 2004 trying to do the same thing… A Swannanoa gas station, the Six Pack Smoke Stack, had someone come out and check the gasoline it was selling after several people complained that they filled up and then had smoky, sputtery engines. Everything looked fine after checking the gasoline…. Waynesville wants liquor by the drink.
Lots of apartments coming
The Buncombe County Board of Adjustment heard developers’ plans to build three apartment complexes in Buncombe County. Pat Simon said the meeting resembled a courtroom drama. We didn’t see much drama, and we didn’t get the details on the new construction. There are 308 apartments slated for the Cliffs; there are 380 units set to be built next to Leicester Village off Leicester Highway; and that’s all we heard.
In other news…
Recent announcements of new businesses coming to Old Ford arrived “just in time for the holidays,” WLOSers said. PRC Industries will take over an old building and recycle appliances and bring 300 jobs, said Jeremy Butterfield, who failed to mention that it’s 300 jobs over five years. Butterfield also said that Janesville Acoustics will add 30 jobs. Old Fort town leaders said that more and more people are interested in the quality of life in the little town near Ashvegas…. There was a plane crash in Statesville Wednesday morning…. And Cliff Dodson, superintendent of Buncombe County Schools, wants to cut the drop-out rate by offering vocational classes to younger students.
It’s been hot outside
Mike Cuevas said we set record highs Monday and Tuesday, but only hit 73 on Wednesday. The record was 74.
In other news…
The Southern Highland Craft Guild won the Asheville Airport’s tree decorating contest. Not fair! … And John Le went to Fletcher for the grand opening of a new Goodwill Store there. He found lots of people doing their holiday shopping, including a 96-year-old woman and lots of people with big butts.
I gotta get me some smart girl glasses and dump these nerd boy specs!

I live just up the road from there, and let me tell you, it was an absolute zoo all day. There was even a shuttle bus running to the location from the old Goodwill store up the road just to accommodate all the cars.
