Cross burning
Jeremy Butterfield brought us a story about some drunks burning a small cross in the yard of an African-American woman. The woman said she wasn’t scared – she just felt her drunk neighbors were being ignorant. Butterfield never answered the key question – would the alleged cross burners be charged with a hate crime.

In crime news…
Hendersonville police issued warrants for the arrest of a 29-year-old man wanted for sticking up a BB&T bank on Dana Road earlier in the week… Two dummies were arrested in Hendersonville after leading police on a short chase. The dudes had allegedly stolen an SUV.

Wally World propane tank follow
WLOSers said the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Sylva reopened at 6 a.m. Thursday morning after a propane tank in the store’s sporting goods section blew up and injured on worker and three customers. ATF agents are investigating.

Meth in Madison – the drug of choice
Pat Simon said Madison County deputies busted two meth labs in a trailer. Five people were arrested. Sheriff John Ledford told Simon what we know already – that dumb meth cookers get blown up, while the smart ones get smarter at hiding what they’re doing. Ledford said meth is the drug of choice in Madison County.

APD wants your help
The Asheville Police Department wants the community’s help in recruiting new officers. If you want to help recruit, be at APD at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 25.

Searching for ‘shine
WLOSers said law enforcement agents were trained on how to find and disable a moonshine still… And dozens of search and rescue dogs did some training out at Camp Rockmont. (Camp Rockmont, not “Rockmount,” as Simon read it.)
