I’ve not kept up with WLOSers very well this week. Sorry ’bout that. Starting a new job tended to take my concentration away from the teevee people.

But I’ve picked up a few things. First, WLOSers are all over this story about a Grove Park Inn guest rubbing himself in front of a male employee in the spa, and then rubbing down the male employee. The alleged assault took 20 to 30 minutes. This story sounds sketchy.

In other news, loyal reader Girl Named Boo pointed out that WLOSers blurred out male butt crack in reference to a dumb story about the new Abercrombie and Fitch catalogue, but had no problem showing the cover model on the swimsuit edition of Sports Illustrated, who is wearing nothing but a few beads and a cloth triangle.

I also heard that Charu was complaining about doing a story on the Chocolate Festish and not getting offered any chocolate!

Meanwhile, here’s some of what WLOSers had to start out the week:

Gary Hilton’s van
WLOSers said they got a copy of the search warrant police needed to search suspect Gary Hilton’s van. He’s the guy that Transylvania County police think killed John and Irene Bryant. Charu did the story, and said police found a yellow jacket with blood stains on it, a sling blade, a hack saw, two batons, hypodermic needles, some porn, condoms and lube.

The cops are still investigating.

Cross burning
WLOSer Heather Graf said somebody burned an eight-foot-tall wooden cross near the eighth hole of the Lake Junaluska Golf Course in Haywood County and police are treating it as a hate crime. It happened last Friday about 8:30 p.m..

In other news…
Residents of Yellowtop Mountain returned home after brush fires threatened the area… Henderson County slated make up days for schools because recent inclement weather cancelled school… All Creatures Great and Small, the shutter no-kill animal shelter, held a yard sale to get rid of old cages and dog carriers… The state DOT is using mowers and chain saws to cut back vegetation along Interstate 26… And Asheville City Council heard from people who said the city should take flouride out of our water, as well as from people who said keep the flouride in the water… And this week was the first week that candidates could file for state and local elections.

Sex ed debate
State Rep. Susan Fisher says there needs to be more comprehensive sex education in public schools. She wants comprehensive, “medically correct” education that she’s calling “abstinence plus,” according to WLOSers Terrie Foster.

To get the other side, Foster went to Meredith Hunt, who regularly protests against abortion and is the director of Life Advocates. Hunt said sex is for procreation, period.

Foster went back to Fisher, who said let’s be real, kids are having sex. She said she’s going to re-introduce her House bill when she gets the chance.

Former mayor memorialized
Gene Ochenreiter, a former mayor of Asheville who was found of the WNC Sports Hall of Fame, died recently and was memorialized on Tuesday.
