Weeki Wachee mermaid

This is an old postcard from the Florida amusement park Weeki Wachee Springs, known for its live mermaid show. It’s been embroiled in controversy the past few years, but back in the day, this place was the bomb. It opened in 1947, before another famous Florida theme park, and drew all kinds of visitors, including Elvis.

Hey– I grew up not far from there! That spring they perform in is really cold– there was a small waterpark attached called Buccaneer Bay, and on hot days we’d skip school and go swimming.
