LEAF time is the best time, and this weekend is the 3rd annual LEAF downtown, happening over two days in downtown Asheville. We highly recommend that you check it out, and pair your excursion to LEAF with one (or seven!) of our other hand-picked weekend activities. Here’s the full roundup:

Thursday

An Inconvenient Sequel @ Fine Arts Theatre

6:15 – 9 pm

Asheville will get an early glimpse at the follow-up to Al Gore’s 2006 climate change documentary in a screening that benefits The Collider. A reception beforehand at Blue Spiral will kick things off.

Friday—Saturday

LEAF Downtown @ Pack Square Park

4 – 10 pm Friday, noon – 10 pm Saturday

This year, the theme of LEAF Downtown is “Turn It Up!” We most certainly will with help from headliners The Family Stone, plus other great musicians and performers including Escort, Easy Star All-Stars, Nex Millen, Unifire Theater, and more. Shop for arts and crafts, eat delicious food, and check out the other goings-on of the weekend, including the Easel Rider arts village and the Voices of Asheville stage. Free!

Friday

First Friday @ area galleries

5 pm – 10 pm

Local galleries host First Friday, opening their doors to passers-by and offering glimpses into artists’ experiences and work in the city of Asheville. Roam through the streets of downtown, from Asheville Area Arts Council to the Haen, Blue Spiral, and more, and then mosey up to the BAD (Broadway Arts District) for a peek inside the Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center, the Center for Craft, Creativity, and Design, Satellite Gallery, and others. Then head over to the River Arts District and check out all of the studios and wares on the banks of the French Broad.

Talking Dreads w/ Station Underground @ Salvage Station

9 pm – 1 am

Reggae flows steadily from the Salvage Station as you find your perfect summer groove. Enter our ticket giveaway on Asheville Grit’s Facebook page for a chance at 2 tickets to the event.

Saturday

Stuffed Animal Vet Clinic @ Dancing Bear Toys

12 noon – 2 pm

This walk-in clinic will have your child’s (or your!) favorite friend patched up in no time. Donations of $3 or a bag of cat or dog food go to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue. At the Asheville location of Dancing Bear (518 Kenilworth Rd).

Midnight Snack w/ Brie Capone and Mother Moses @ Salvage Station

9 pm – midnight

Yes, we’re back at the Salvage Station for another weekend show that’s sure to please with a bevy of talented local musicians on the bill. Enter our ticket giveaway on Instagram (@ashevillegrit) for 2 tickets to this one!

Sunday

Poetrio @ Malaprop’s Bookstore and Cafe

3 pm

It’s official: Everyone needs more poetry in their life. Get your fix on Sunday at Malaprop’s with Julia Nunnally Duncan, Tony Reevy & Kristin Robertson. Free.

Farm Friend Bend: Yoga with Goats @ Franny’s Farm

6 – 7 pm

A gentle, all-levels yoga class—with goats! Asheville Grit has a ticket giveaway going through Friday on Facebook AND Instagram. To enter, come up with a name for a goat-inspired yoga pose and leave us a comment on the original post(s)!

Silent Sundays @ Grail Moviehouse

7-10 pm

It’s a night with Buster Keaton! Plus an intro from film historian Frank C. Thompson and live piano score from Andrew Fletcher. Films screened will be The Butcher Boy, One Week, and Sherlock, Jr.
