Pedestrian struck by car on Patton Avenue

ASHEVILLE – At about 4:30 p.m. May 30, a pedestrian walking eastbound near 990 Patton Ave., was hit by a vehicle. The pedestrian had walked into the middle lane of traffic for unknown reasons. The driver of the vehicle swerved to avoid the pedestrian, but was unable to do so. The pedestrian, a 51-year-old white female, was transported to Mission Hospitals and was in critical condition Friday evening. The APD’s Traffic Safety Unit is not releasing her name until family has been notified of her status. No charges have been filed at this time and TSU is investigating the incident.

APD investigates wreck in south Asheville

ASHEVILLE – An Asheville Police patrol vehicle was involved in a collision on Hendersonville Road near Oak Forest Boulevard at about 7:12 pm. on May 30. The patrol car was struck by another vehicle at the intersection. Both the officer and the driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries. The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Safety Unit.

Man injured in motorcycle collision

ASHEVILLE – Asheville police responded to a single motorcycle collision at about 11:30 p.m. May 30 on N.C. 63 at Old County Home Road. Kevin Jaye Rice, birth date 11/16/1975, was attempting to make a right turn onto Old County Home Road when he lost control and crashed. Mr. Rice was ejected from the motorcycle and was is in critical condition at Mission Hospitals Friday evening. He was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Improper Helmet, and No Motorcycle Endorsement.

Man wanted in downtown stabbings surrenders to APD

ASHEVILLE – Asheville police today (May 27) arrested James Ira Milling III, birth date 10/10/1976, who was wanted on three counts of attempted first-degree murder. The incident occurred at about 2:20 a.m. on April 27 in the area of 32 N. Market St. The APD had received a call in reference to a fight with weapons in progress at that address. Officers arrived to find three men who had sustained severe lacerations and puncture wounds. Milling, of Candler, is being held at the Buncombe County Detention Center on a $600,000 secured bond. He turned himself in to Asheville police at about 1 p.m. today.
