I have heard that a "Whole Foods / Greenlife – like" store will replace Poppies…very much like what is there now…The new owners jacked the rent beyond what Poppies could manage (it is unknown as to whether said developer already had a replacement for Poppies lined up)…
It is my understanding that Poppies is well loved in the community and will relocate closer into town…
Several locals I have talked to said they would not support a new operation…
Pam – Ash has a larger following than the holier-than-thou bubble of Asheville. I used to live in Brevard for 7 years and read this blog even then. The folks who know the faces in Poppy's and who spend their dollars locally there care…that's who.
Kudos to Ash who expands the bubble beyond the AVL city limits unlike how a certain publication and the readers that for years ran their "Best of WNC" special issue with only Asheville locations. Fortunately that has been remedied with some small sections dedicated to other towns in WNC. Yep..surprise..there are a few more out there.
Who really cares?
I'm not sure what your comment even means. Let me simplify it for you – there's no way on earth that WF would purchase such a small store in such a small town. I've heard stories of stores starting rumors regarding WF in order to drive up their value in negotiations with other potential suitors… This is likely one of those scenarios.
None at all. They may acquire and keep the name, selling whole foods products, but a "whole foods in brevard"…..not a chance. From friends at Whole Foods.
