From the Tuckasegee Reader, which reported in advance a “demo day” event on the Nantahala River:

(Justin) Kleberg thinks Base Camp Cullowhee, WCU’s outdoor education center, can create a new gravitational force in the WNC whitewater community.

“You’ve got the NOC and Asheville as these good epicenters where things can start to branch out from,” Kleberg said.

Demo Day is a kind of celebration of freestyle paddling action on local water. A long list of kayak manufacturers –– Dagger, Liquid Logic, Bliss-Stick, Fluid, Pyranha, Wave Sport, Jackson –– will make their 2011 boats available to recreational paddlers for the first time.
