The manager

Shocking news today from the Citizen-Times: After 13 years, Joe Mikulik, the winningest manager in the team’s history, was fired today by the Tourists’ parent club, the Colorado Rockies.

As well as being a Hall of Fame manager, Mikulik is known for pitching world-class tantrums on the field. Under Mikulik the Tourists were the 2012 South Atlantic League champions.

From the C-T:

The most successful manager in the history of the Asheville Tourists and the South Atlantic League is out after 13 years.

Hall of Famer Joe Mikulik, who led the Tourists to the SAL championship this season, has been fired by the Colorado Rockies, the Tourists’ parent club. No information was immediately available as to the cause of the dismissal.

He was inducted into the SAL Hall of Fame in 2010.

“The Rockies informed us that Joe would not be back as our manager next year. They didn’t say why, and I didn’t ask. They handle the baseball side of things, and we handle the business,” said Tourists president Brian DeWine.

guys…he wasn’t FIRED. I talked to him today….they are making this into something it isn’t. His exact words were…”Its a mutual split, they just didn’t renew his contract.”

Screw you, Rockies. What a discraceful way to treat such a valuable member of the farm system. I hope the Rockies finish dead last every year.
