Oktoberfest 2010 drinkers

From the Asheville Downtown Association blog. Tix are $25 and the event is Saturday, Oct. 13:

On Saturday, October 13, Downtown Asheville’s Wall Street will transform into “Little Germany” for the Asheville Downtown Association’s 4th Annual Oktoberfest, presented by Harmony Motors.

Internationally-renowned “oompah” band, The Stratton Mountain Boys, returns to the stage with happy yodeling songs, shoe-slapping dances and lively spirited Polka music sure to incite dancing in the street and rousing cheers of “ein Prosit!”

The event features beer tastings from local breweries with many brewers featuring seasonal ales for Oktoberfest. The brewers will also be on hand to discuss their beers.

The popular Oktoberfest Games, which pit local brewery teams against each other, are back with some old favorites like the “Stein race” and “keg-rolling” as well as some new games. Plus, there will be a festival-wide costume contest, so don your lederhosen and represent. A schedule of events will be available soon.

Satisfy your craving for Oktoberfest cuisine with German staples like bratwurst, pretzels and traditional sides from Wall Street Restaurants.

This is a limited capacity event so get your tickets today! Tickets are $25 and go on sale Wednesday, August 1 at 11am.

We are proud to announce that The Stratton Mountain Boys will be joining us again this year. They were a big hit at last year’s Oktoberfest bringing authentic traditional Bavarian music to Wall St.

The Stratton Mountain Boys have brought the haunting sounds of four alphorns, happy yodeling songs, shoe slapping dances, and lively spirited Polka music to audiences across the U.S for more than 30 years.

Contests

This year, contestants for the team contests will be selected by our local participating breweries! Each brewery will field a team of four individuals, one of which must be a female. During the month of September, special events will be held at each brewery and more information will be available soon. If selected by a brewery to be on a team, you will receive free entry to the event. All contestants must be 21 years of age or older. We will still have other contests that are open to all attendees, like the costume contest. There will be some great prizes, so get creative!
