I had no idea there was such an uproar over an opera. From what I understand, Luc Bondy, the director of the new “Tosca” that opened the Metropolitan Opera’s season last month, totally redid the opera, much to the dislike of many an opera fan. Much nashing of teeth has ensued.

Luckily, I have loyal reader James to inform me, and, by extension, you. So here’s James‘ note:

It was just announced that The Carolina Cinemas Asheville has sold out all regular seats for Saturday’s 1:00pm live performance of Tosca in HD from the Metropolitan Opera in New York. They will be releasing 25 special Rush seats on Saturday morning at 11am at The Carolina ticket office on 1640 Hendersonville Road, Asheville, NC.

Asheville has consistently been one of the hottest tickets for the MetHD performances selling out most of the shows over the past two years. This year, live operas will be shown in two theaters with approximately 340 seats. The rush tickets represent a special opportunity to allow people to attend the performances, by purchasing the tickets on the day of the show and watching the world’s best opera from the Carolina’s unique couch seating. The tickets are $22.00 for adults, $20 for seniors, $15 for child and $18 for students.

The Met’s Tosca has been very controversial since its premiere in New York last month.

$22 to watch a show in a movie theatre? Good Christ, no wonder the dollar is losing value daily. What a ripoff.
