Press release here:
The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa is now accepting guests of the four-legged variety for the first time in its almost 100 year history. A new section of “pet-friendly” rooms in the Vanderbilt Wing of the Resort will come with a special turndown amenity. The Inn is offering guests who bring their pets on vacation a variety of trails and walking routes for exercising, as well as a special walking area for pets near the new pet-friendly rooms.
“More and more of our guests were telling us they love to come to The Grove Park Inn on vacation, but they hated leaving their precious pets behind,” said Kevin Cross, Director of Rooms for The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa.
In addition to the many in-room amenities for guests and their pets, The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa will also provide guests information on local pet stores, vet clinics and other pet-related services to help support other local pet-friendly businesses. To make sure that pets of guests at The Grove Park Inn will experience the Resort’s legendary service, there’s even a special in room dining menu for pets now, featuring such items as Chicken “Pup” Pie and Meat Woof. While in public areas, pets must be kept on a leash or in a carrier. Restrictions to locations within the Resort for pet access include the Great Hall Lobby, any Food & Beverage outlets, the Sports Complex, The Spa and pool areas. This exclusion does not apply to service dogs.

Some hotels charge a fee for pets, and others do not. Regardless, the news release should have stated that a fee is to be charged. It also does not state if their are size, breed or other types of rules.
Just like the airlines with baggage fees, hotels like Grove Park Inn are desperate for revenue and this just adds more to the guest bill.
Most hotels that permit pets charge an extra fee for keeping pets in the room. Why should the Grove Park be any different? I've seen everything from $50 to $200. $95 for somewhere like Grove Park seems reasonable. Plus, the people staying there can afford it anyway.
… for that $95 each pet (2 per room), will get a toy, a "pet placemat", and food and water bowl for the duration of the stay, and a "special: treat at turn down time (bedtime).
… the "Pet Entrees" range in price from 8.95 for the Chicken "Pup Pie", to 19.95 for locally raised Trout with carrots, zucchini, brown rice and milk porridge.
What this press release totally fails to mention is that there is a $95.00 charge per per stay!
Deborah Potter of the GPI marketing dept. surely knows that any news release needs to be totally transparent. Maybe this sort of PR strategy worked for the corrupt former Congressman Charles Taylor, but is not acceptable practice in today's corporate world.
Clearly, the GPI needs more revenue because they are not filling their guest rooms and restaurants this year.
Clearly, there is not a problem with the economy.
