Some of what’s going around Asheville, all with a musical twist:

-Asheville band Sirius.B has put together a great little tune for the Asheville Google Fiber Initiative. It’s “Hava NaGoogle.” Check it.

-There’s a rumor that Drive By Truckers will play an in-store show at Harvest Records when they come back through Asheville on April 17. Anybody know more?

-There’s a new web site devoted to the music scene in Black Mountain. It’s www.blackmountainmusicscene.com/

-And Podcast Bunker has a great look back at WISE and WBMU radio here in Asheville. A snippet:

A year or so later, whatever the year was back then, WISE moved to Lookout Road and WBMU moved in. I was hanging at my Dad’s bus garage again one day and decided to check out WBMU. I walked in, all of 12&1/2 years old, and told Jim Robinson I wanted to be a DJ. A few months later, I was in a radio broadcasting course at the YWCA that was hosted by Jim Robinson, Hal Brown and John Brooks. I started at WBMU on the air when I was 14 running the Soul Top 40 Countdown (hosted by Spider Harrison) on Saturday afternoons. I worked there for a couple of years before being hired at WRAQ by Don McTyre. Left the “Q” in June 1981 and worked “afternoons”at WBMS in Black Mountain for a couple of weeks. Dr John at WISE called me during my Friday afternoon shift and asked me if I wanted to start working that night at 2am. I just about peeded my pants with excitement!!! The rest is….history! (I still have my Broadcast Operator Handbook that we were given in the WBMU class)
