We stopped by the opening of the tattoo art exhibit at the Ashvegas Art Museum on Saturday. The exhibit is called “Under the Skin: Tattoos and Contemporary Culture.” Here’s what the museum says:

“This exhibtion brings together objects, photographs, tattoo ephemera, tattooists’ drawings and contemporary artwork to consider the effect and popularity of tattoo imagery and culture on America today.”

Here’s a little more, from Prick Magazine:

The exhibit “brings together tattoo flash, photographs and contemporary artwork to consider the effect and popularity of tattoo imagery and culture on America today. The exhibition will be comprised of works by esteemed tattoo artists including Don Ed Hardy, Sailor Jerry, Kandi Everett, Thom deVita, Ruth Marten, and Paul Rogers. The exhibit will also include works by North Carolina tattoo artists and by contemporary artists and photographers whose work incorporates tattoo imagery or who consider tattooing to be a cultural phenomenon.”

The exhibit goes until October. Check it out.
