Ok folks, here’s a quick look at Asheville liquor consumption trends, courtesy of the Asheville Board of Alcohol Control.

The chart is a little confusing, so let me break it down. The first column on the left, “Cases,” shows the number of cases sold from September 2013 to September 2014 of the corresponding liquor. Burnett’s Vodka was the top seller in Asheville by the number of cases sold, at 2,600. The number in parenthesis beside the dollar amount of sales shows the ranking of that liquor in Asheville by dollar amount sold. So Burnett’s Vodka was tops in cases sold, but it ranked 9th in dollars, and that simply comes down to price.

The top seller in Asheville in terms of dollars from September 2013 to September 2014 was Jack Daniels. (Burnett’s sells for about $12 a bottle versus about $24 a bottle for the Jack.) The four liquors at the very bottom – Grey Goose, Crown Royal, Absolut and Ketel One round out the top ten list for best sellers in Asheville by dollar amount sold.

The “Statewide” column at far right lists, from top seller on down, the best sellers by cases sold from September 2013 to September 2014 statewide. So Smirnoff Vodka was tops statewide in terms of cases sold.

One other note: The Asheville ABC Board tells me that Asheville ABC stores sell more Jameson than ABC stores anywhere else in the state.

It’s really sad to see this much alcohol consumed, advertised as something positive, it really is one of the worst drugs, completely damaging to society and one of the biggest killers out there.

I would think ‘Aristocrat Supreme’ would appeal to our Republican and Libertarian friends.

Question: when we’re referring to the number of cases sold, are we:

    a. including cases sold to restaurants and bars?
    b. including only those sold to individuals?

This is the total number of cases that the Asheville ABC Board sold as a whole. This includes bars and individuals.

I feel like my household may have gotten Makers Mark on the Asheville list.
