Seeger departing WNC Magazine

Word on the street is that there will be a goodbye party for WNC Magazine Editor Eric Seeger on Thursday. The send-off for Seeger will mark an end to his stewardship of the glossy, which launched in Asheville about three years ago.

The magazine is published by Gulfstream Communications. The company’s move to publish in Asheville marked the start of a steady expansion:

With offices in Charleston, Greenville, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina as well as Asheville, GulfStream Communications has more than 20 years of experience publishing regional lifestyle magazines. From its roots with Charleston magazine, GulfStream launched WNC, mountain living in Western North Carolina, in 2007; G – The Magazine of Greenville in 2008; and Grandstrand in 2009. The company has expertise in the three areas of regional publishing; print, web, and special events. 

WNC Magazine started as a bimonthly lifestyle magazine “celebrating the unique people and cultures, art, architecture, history, and foodways of Asheville, NC and surrounding Western North Carolina.” (It publishes monthly in the summer.) It has been chock full of local advertising, including ads for high-end real estate, and has established itself as a player on the social scene with big events promoting local food and artists.

I’m not sure what’s next, but Seeger’s departure apparently leaves my friend and former Asheville Citizen-Times colleague, Rita Larkin, next in line for the top editor’s job. Larkin is the magazine’s managing editor.
