Press release here:

Save the French Broad River by drinking Sweetwater Beer, eating Mellow Mushroom pizza, and hopefully hanging out with Michael Franti and Spearhead.

This event, brought to you by the Western North Carolina Alliance (WNCA), the French Broad Riverkeeper, Sweetwater Brewery, and Clear Channel and its family of stations, will kickoff off the Save the French Broad 2010 campaign. The event will help celebrate the new French Broad Riverkeeper program at the Western North Carolina Alliance and will announce all the exciting details of the Save the French Broad campaign.

During the month of June, bars, restaurants, and businesses will help save the river by selling paper fish and encouraging everyone to “give your liver to save the river.” In addition, WNCA will host an 11 day, 122 mile paddle trip down the French Broad River from June 18-28. During this trip we will monitor the river’s water quality and raise awareness about the threats to the river. The trip will include a raft race, camping along the banks of the river, tours of historical and industrial sites, a visit to the Biltmore Estate, and lots of fun with fellow paddlers. Paddlers of all experience levels and ages are encouraged to join!

Come to the kick-off party and help us Save the French Broad River in style!
