Some serious local Twitter buzz tonight from credible sources that New Belgium Brewery is opening up an East coast operation in Asheville. Supposedly several people across the U.S. have reported seeing on some of their labels..”Soon to be brewing in Asheville”. This could be a big game changer.

Anyone?

They would not be a good fit for Asheville-too big and corporate. Most of their process consist of pushing buttons on giant machines. The people of this town do not embrace large national companies well and the thought of the city providing incentives flies in the face of all the smaller guys that have worked hard for years to make this a great MICRO-brew town. This would hurt small LOCAL operations and most of the dollars would end up back in Colorado. Don't use tax dollars to kill the goose thats been laying golden eggs for Ashevegas! I hope they first pick another location that wants and needs them, then do their own groundwork. JMHO

New Belgium is not anything like Budweiser poor anybody. Im glad you have that attitude though…. maybe they will be building a brewery in my town instead…. I would love to have a job in the beer industry for a quality company like New Belgium.

This rumor has been floating around the brewing community for a couple of weeks now. Heard that certain members of city council have already met with New Belgium and proposed a $3 million tax break to create 30 jobs and DESTROY our beloved, homegrown beer city. New Belgium would quickly own every sponsorship and festival and would quickly brand itself "local". Look for a seasonal named after a WNC landmark coming soon…….. New Belgium=Budweiser DON'T BE FOOLED!!!!!
