With just a little more than a week to go before Christmas, it’s time to look at predictions for snow on Christmas. Ray’s Weather says there is an above-average chance for snow this year. There will be plenty of cold air to go around, but a question remains about whether or not there will be enough moisture along with it.

Weather.com’s 10-day forecast calls for a snow shower on Dec. 23. That looks promising.

Weather Underground’s calendar showing historical data for Asheville reveals an average high of 47 on Christmas Day and average precipitation of .11 inches.

Guess we’ll wait and see what happens.

I would say there is actually a better than average chance of a mountain White Christmas this year. Granted a forecast 200 plus hours out is tricky, here are the facts. One, we’re in a cold pattern. Second, the southern storm track has been very active in recent weeks. Three, the long range models continue to show a winter weather system developing and approaching NC around Christmas. Granted, I would not go on TV this far out and lock in snow for Christmas but I do think there’s a decent chance! We’ll know in about 9 days!

huh, go back to the tape. Boyer, on the 6 p.m. newscast, absolutely did not say he could not predict that far out.

What he said was there’s very little chance of us having a white Christmas.

Correction: Not taking up for Jason Boyer, but that is absolutely not what he said. He said he was not going to predict that far out yet.
