Rainbow over Asheville

Rainbow from a couple of days ago, shot from Westgate Shopping Center parking lot looking east. Actually, there was a double-rainbow, though the arc to the left is pretty faint.

Jamunca, it depends. There are tons of options, but I would start narrowing it down by deciding how much you want to spend, and deciding what you’ll use your camera for.

I would recommend the Nikon D-40 or D-60 if you want a digital SLR that offers great quality at an affordable price.

If you’re thinking of using the camera for more professional purposes, look at the D-300. More megapixels, more money, etc.

Cannon’s are also great cameras. The Rebel SLR is a great camera for everyday shooting.

If you want a point-and-shoot (not an SLR), there are zillions of choices, but I would look at the Lumix and Nikon Coolpix series.

So, what would you recommend now? in the arena of camera-ness.

Jamnunca, thanks. It’s a Nikon D-70, going on four years old. They don’t even make ’em any more – that’s how fast things change in the world of digital electronics.

A similar view, though by now the rainbow was dissipating: http://www.flickr.com/photos/moonbird/3568505012/

Don’t worry, it didn’t end at the Civic Center! From where I saw it, it clearly ended on the attic of a house near Choctaw Ave. I almost felt like running over and knocking on the door to say "hey, go look in your attic for gold!" but figured the residents wouldn’t be as amused as I was. I’d never seen a rainbow so close before, the colors were even visible in front of the trees and houses. What a great addition to a rainy Memorial Day!

Great shot, except that the pot of gold appears to be located in the Civic Center, and that can’t possibly be right.
