Funny, because it’s so real.

Have you gotten towed in Asheville? We used to have quite the reputation for tow truck operators who would snatch a car or truck at the drop of a hat. But I haven’t heard many complaints lately from tourists and residents. Have things improved?

Your generally safe in lots like that after 6 or 7.

Business hours will still get you towed though.

And if the meter maid gets board, she will literaly stand next to cars with 2-3 minutes left on the meter to ticket them once they expire.

But once 6 pm rolls around, it’s normally all gravy.

Clocky, I know the lot you mean, and I used to park there in the evenings when I’d play pub trivia. It’s probably full of Jack of the Wood trivia nerds on Monday nights.

Once I parked in that tow-lot by Mellow Mushroom one evening and totally got nabbed. (I thought I’d be OK on a weeknight evening. Not only am I small-town, I was used to Charlotte, where I guess I’d either been lucky or lived in a city where tow trucks don’t prowl the streets for the cash of fools.)

This was a few years ago, but I still feel the harsh, harsh sting of coughing up $125 on a student budget.

Last week, I stopped downtown to shop for a futon. I parked in a bank parking lot on Patton Ave. This bank has placed at least two signs indicating that cars of non-customers will be towed 24/7. There were about ten cars in the parking lot. None were cars of customers, since the bank was closed.

Guess what? The tow trucks stayed away from me.

In fact, this same parking lot is usually full on Monday nights, while the bank is closed. I guess any car there is a candidate for towing, but I’ve not heard of it happening.
