Press release here:

The Preservation Society of Asheville and Buncombe County announces the second program of our 35th Anniversary celebration.  On March 26 from 10am to 12 noon, Instructor Tim Hanlon will present an over view of the Decorative Techniques and Restoration program of A B Tech Community College.

This program teaches students how to restore existing historic buildings to their former glory as well as the skills to create beautiful spaces in any age building. Whether you are into furniture, objects or buildings, the skills taught in the program will allow you to restore, rejuvenate or repair many common traditional as well as modern building materials.

Examples of preservation trade skills such as plaster casting and running molds, woodgraining, gilding and marbleizing will be on display as well as examples of a wide variety of decorative finishes suitable for many surfaces including walls and furniture.

Learn a bit about St. Genevieve’s of the Pines, a Catholic school that was established by nuns from a French order known as “The Religious of Christian Education” from which the campus of A B Tech was established.  The Ivy Building, which houses the Restoration Program and is the site of the March 26 event, is the last remaining building from the St. Genevieve’s era of 1908 to 1987.  Details of the history of the Ivy Building will be presented as well.  The Historic Ivy Building is on the campus of A B Tech, 340 Victoria Road.  Follow Campus signage and look for PSABC Event signs.
