Jason Sandford
Jason Sandford is a reporter, writer, blogger and photographer interested in all things Asheville.
Pollinating Asheville is a new blog by Susanne Hackett, who is local consultant. Here’s her introduction:
Pollinating Asheville is dedicated to raising awareness, spreading the word, and showcasing those individuals, businesses, non-profits, groups and government projects that truly do pollinate our community. Our growth and diversity as a community is based on cross-fertilization and collaboration.Submissions from the community are welcome and guidelines are available under the ”Pollinate” tab under the header.
Pollinating Asheville content will focus on local projects/ideas/happenings that truly put our community first, with a special emphasis on collaborative and innovative projects. Pollinating Asheville is maintained by Susanne Hackett of Pollinate Consulting: Innovative, Community-minded Outreach. For more information about Pollinate Consulting, see the “About” tab.
The Glen Rock Depot development is her new project. Here’s what she says about The Magnetic Field, one component of the mixed-use development:
Put two young creative artist entrepreneurs in a room and you get The Magnetic Field (what a great name, huh?), a cafe/bar/performance house focused on local/regional fare and original work in the River Arts District.
Jonathan Frappier (professional actor/producer/fundraiser) and Chall Gray (writer/director/producer)—have joined forces and innovation around this project. Lucky us.
The Magnetic Field will be housed in two of the Glen Rock Hotel’s first floor bays. The café and bar will lead directly into the performance house, so you can pop in for a drink or a bite to eat and, if you like, attend a play, see live music or a movie, laugh at improv or stand-up comedy, hear poets and writers, etc.
Special effects include: magnet walls and menus (think toss and store menus); locally named drinks and specials; nasty (read: killer) new performance space; great coffee…and, possibly (shhh, this is secret) a roof top courtyard!
To open late Spring 2010.
From Cindy Weeks at Mountain Housing Opportunities, Inc. (Glen Rock Depot project manager and developer)…
We are excited to have the Magnetic Field as part of the Glen Rock Hotel and also the participation of Pollinating Asheville and Susanne Hackett-(who will be helping us with our community outreach and marketing.)
Please visit MHO’s website at http://www.mtnhousing.org where you can find lots of information about all aspects of the Glen Rock Depot. Thanks!
