There was a ton of great action at Bele Chere Friday evening. Probably the hottest spot was, as you could have guessed, right on Pack Square beneath the Vance Monument.

The Bible-thumping street preacher that always comes out to the festival got shouted down by a bunch of young punkers, who were writing “Homo” on their bellies and “Bi” on their foreheads and chanting: “We love homos! We love homos! We love homos!” We’ll share shots of that a little later.

Here are a few other tidbits we heard:

One woman to another: “Remember when my mom was into driftwood…”

Two guys see two busty babes in tank tops approaching.
Guy One: “Ho! Boo-yah! Whatcha got there? That looks like a couple a monkeys fightin’ under a blanket.”
Guy Two: “Thank God for Bele Chere.”

Woman, into a cell phone: “Yeah. It’s just a lot of people having a really big party.”

Girl fanning herself: “Please blow, breeze.”
