Wedge is close; The Squashpile was/is actually "Curve" across from 12 Bones. I think somewhere in there John Blackwell owned it too. Also in that same time period the masonry facade that’s still stading across the street from Curve and 12 Bones was a rundown building that punk and metal bands played in.
I’m the guitarist from that video (the shaved-head guy) and the guy who put it on YouTube. Thanks for the info on the Squashpile history, and for passing along the video. The whole concert is up now at the URL included with this comment. Cheers!

squashpile was a venue opened by patty torno, a former fashion designer from asheville. she had a company called tornado clothing, or something like that. i know this because i started the first goth/punk club in asheville, in 1988 or so, called the spider’s web. i ran it for a few years until it got taxing, and then i passed it over to danni iosello, a local drummer. when danni got closed down by the police half a year later, torno opened squashpile to fill the void. i only saw one show there- valve (with clay hooker of blackbox, among others . . .) i think it was in what they are now calling the wedge . . .? prior to this, the only venue for punk shows was the loading dock at the chesterfield mill (which burned to the ground several years back.)
