It will be nice to have new shops and stores in my neck of the woods. Im sick of always going to tunnel road or the south side of asheville to get food, shopping, entertainment, etc. But I am kind of worried about the traffic it will bring on leicester highway.
Lowes Foods?
Wow, Chad. You are the man in-the-know. I was happy just having the nice CVS near the house, then thrilled with the big, clean Ingles…but all this, too? I may not have to leave West Asheville for anything ever again!!
Atlanta Bread Company with small shops on each side and a steak house will be built on the right side in the undeveloped out-parcel. ABC Store is going across the street. Source – Lewis Bartlett Plumbing. They are the ones doing the plumbing for the site. Bob Ledfords "Let’s Make A Deal" son is the developer. Real nice people. We in "Lester" are looking forward to it all.

Gratuitous — yes, preparing for action!
I dunno. But I’ve been driving by that thing several times a day wondering what the hell, so one day I asked around. Nobody knew, but the guy who owns Virtual Ambush across the street said they’ve been pushing dirt from one side to the other for years now. I heard a rumor of a Lowe’s, but my contractor friend said the space seemed small for that. Still, with as many homes serviced by Leicester Hwy (my dead pine tree dragged down a power line, and Progress Energy told me it knocked out power to 20,000 homes this past summer), and high-end gated communities springing up everywhere, it would make some sense. Mini-Lowe’s, or some Mega-drugstore perhaps?
In any case, Leicester Crossing is clearly preparing for action. I can see it now: Grab a bite at the new Lou’s Grubshack, get some banking done, fritter away a couple hours at Virtual Ambush, pop into US Cellular and scratch my head at why they don’t get to carry the new Blackberry, pick up a bottle at the new liquor store for my friends, snag a 6-pack of the "coldest beer on Leicester Highway" (for real) at the BP for me. Does all this mean that Leicester "downtown" is shifting down the road to a strip mall? Currently, city center is Jerry’s Garage, Leicester Grill, Sluder’s Grocery and Swann Tire. I ain’t much like the locals, but I’m glad to be amongst them. Sadly, it smells like their days might be numbered.
By the way, you can learn a bit about Leicester’s history via clippings and old photos at the Leicester Grill.
