WLOSers really let us down on Friday. Not Neuticle News for the first day in like a month. Dammit, Russ. Where the heck were you? We need to know more about doms and subs, collars and the nutsack numbskulls. We’re in withdrawal. No Master Rick. No Dungeon Dan. Arggghhhhh!

O well. On to the other nonsense…

Light rail
People just love to get together and dream about brining back trains, don’t they? North Carolina has been dreaming about developing a “light rail” system – bringing back train service, basically – for decades. And it’s the same thing everytime. It’s expensive as hell. And the politicians say it’s got to be a deal that includes both public and private investment.

So dozens of people got together Friday to dream some more about passenger train service from Salisbury to Ashvegas. Lots of talking, just like all the other years. No action.

Enviro-vandals?
A good ol boy hired to clear a bunch of land in Madison County’s Laurel Valley for a massive new development was none too happy about having his bulldozers vandalized recently. Somebody poured white paint all over the heavy equipment, and the paint seeped down into the engine compartments.

WLOSers – Little Red Ryan actually had the story – speculated that the vandals were opposed to the controversial development.

Trooper ticketed
Sheraldo told us that Kevin Bray, the State Highway Patrol officer pulled over last week for speeding on Mills Gap Road and then let go, was finally issued a ticket for going 99 mph in a 45 mph zone. He was also charged with driving without possession of his driver’s license. Fletcher Police Chief Langdon Raymond, a former Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department deputy, explained it all to Sheraldo. The chief really couldn’t answer why the Fletcher police officer who pulled over Trooper Bray let the trooper go without a ticket in the first place. The trooper, driving a private car and off duty, was actually going faster than 99 mph, but when the Fletcher officer looked at his radar, it read 99 mph.

Tornado watch
There was one last night. There were some thunderstorms, but they didn’t seem as bad as the ones that hit earlier in the week.

Fire in south Asheville
Cherub Charu was there. That was about it.

Land protected
Mary Judlicka – hey Mary! where you been, girl? – told us that thousands of acres in McDowell County have been protected. The land is at the headwaters of the Catawba River Basin, so that’s why the land was preserved from development. The Foothills Conservancy and the North Carolina Clean Water Trust Fund worked together on the conservation deal.

No neuticle report. Damn.
